The District Gallery presents
Bill Suttles: In My View
October 2-31, 2015
Opening Reception: Friday, October 2, 5-8 p.m.
We are pleased to present Bill Suttles: In My View, opening October 2. A collection of over 40 painterly landscapes and figurative works in oil, watercolor and pastel, the exhibit celebrates moments of heightened visual awareness encountered along the artist’s journey.
Suttles graduated from the American Academy of Art in Chicago in 1949 and was influenced by the Art Institute of Chicago’s Impressionist collection. His career began in illustration (with commissions from publishers and national corporations such as Coca-Cola, Delta Air Lines and Lockheed) and has evolved into a full-time commitment to pursuing his own artistic vision, which he has done for over five decades. Suttles now resides in Blairsville, overlooking the Appalachian foothills of North Georgia, where he draws inspiration for his current work.
This October, Bill Suttles will celebrate his 85th birthday. Fitting of a lifetime of commitment to the arts, his work possesses a remarkable maturity, yet it resonates with a fresh and youthful spirit, evident in his combination of vibrant color, loose gesture, and masterful economy.
Please join us Friday, October 2 from 5-8 p.m. for an art opening and 85th birthday celebration for Bill Suttles—we are honored to explore the world “in his view.” The show is on display in the gallery through October 31.
