Connie Gaertner

About the Artist

A college professor once told me, “You must first paint for yourself, and only then the rest will fall into place.” To this day, such wise words of wisdom still resonate in each painting that’s created.

Connie Gaertner is a representational artist who works from life whenever possible. Her passion for painting is reflected in her love for the outdoors. Her intent is to capture the feeling of atmosphere, time, and location bringing you to the place where she was standing while painting. At times she will paint outdoors, en plein air, bringing the painting back to the studio using the documentation as a reference for a much larger studio painting.

Connie feels living in eight different states stretching coast to coast has helped in expanding her visual experiences. Originally from Texas and residing in Knoxville, Tennessee since 2007, she currently maintains a studio in downtown Knoxville giving her the space to work and create on a daily basis.

Connie studied Art Education at Sam Houston State University. Through continuing education she has studied with award winning artists at local, regional, and national levels. Their influences, techniques, and mentoring has expanded her knowledge of the arts. She is a juried member of Oil Painters of America (OPA) and Women Painters of the Southeast (WPSE). She retains membership with The American Impressionist Society (AIS), American Women Artist (AWA), Blue Ridge Mountain Arts, and Knoxville Arts & Cultural Alliance. Her paintings are in private as well as commercial collections throughout the U.S. and are sold throughout the Southeast.
