Artist Statement

I was born in Belgium and presently live with my family in the United States. It is the fourth country in which I have found inspiration to create my artwork.

I spent more than a decade in Mozambique and South Africa. The African continent had a deep influence on my artwork and use of color.

Living in Tennessee, I have found endless inspiration in my new surroundings. This can be people, horses, landscapes and more recently the four seasons. I often use circles in my landscapes, as they symbolize for me the circle of life.

I put layers of paint on canvas and scratch parts away to fill it up with another layer of paint. It is not about painting a copy of what I see, but about an interpretation of a feeling on canvas—places between the visible and invisible.
