Biography
Carla Bosch’s journey into bold color began in 1976 in Pretoria, South Africa’s capital. The city’s annual carpet of purple jacaranda blossoms undoubtedly inspired the vibrant impressionism that would captivate art enthusiasts worldwide years later. Although she studied interior design, her major artistic talent would not be denied. “I grew up in a very creative environment,” she says. “My dad was a pharmacist by day and an artist by night. His love for life and all things beautiful spilled over.” By 1998, with her giving personality shining through in her liberal use of bright colors, the warmth and cheerfulness of her landscapes, coastal and street scenes caught the eye of top South African art galleries. Local and international collectors, both casual and seasoned, began to acquire her work. It was only a matter of time before her talent was recognized and embraced on the international stage. Carla loves painting en plein air, but is equally at home in her studio, where she enjoys creating her impression of the subject matter without referencing pictures too much. She mostly paints with professional acrylics on stretched canvas. Other artists have recognized Carla’s talent and sought her guidance. She offers workshops to both established artists and aspiring novices alike. Carla’s accomplishments are remarkable. Visit the top plein air events in the United States, and you’re likely to find her there. Her art has also made its way into museum collections. She has won numerous international awards and is represented by leading galleries in South Africa, the United Kingdom, France, and the United States, where she now resides
Artist Statement
I love life and the beauty it has to offer. My work aims to celebrate the magnificent, everyday scenes that we are all drawn to. Panoramas of nature, quaint street corners, and small harbor towns are the scenes that draw me in, so I want to capture and share the emotions I experience when I am confronted with this beautiful world we live in. I work in acrylics, and I like to apply the paint boldly with brush and palette knife. The palette knife is probably my favorite tool, as it challenges me to paint fearlessly. The end result is an honest impression of my subject matter. My art allows me the opportunity to share life with people, and it brings me joy to hear what others experience when they see my work
